OkCupid, the free dating site, and brainchild of a cadre of Harvard grads was gobbled up by Match.com (Barry Diller’s IAC) for $50 million.

Note: the hugely successful IAC is the Big Daddy to Match.com, Chemistry.com, SinglesNet, Ourtime, LoveAndSeek.com Ask.com, Citysearch.com and CollegeHumor.com and a couple of dozen another very well-known websites.

In the beginning, there was only Match.com

Match.com, the grand daddy of all dating (started in 1995), remains the biggest player in the online dating scene. The subscription-based sites flirt in 25 countries, eight languages and across five continents. Depending on discounts, deals and promotions – Match will cost you about $40 a month.
