RIP: August 2011 column: Happy Birthday Ray Bradbury – he’s hot and 91
This love letter to
Ray Bradbury
was written August 26, 2011
Ray Bradbury turns 91
I love his brain. I love his passion.
Author of 30 books and 600 short stories, he once indicated he has multiple ideas – and they “are like popcorn…”
And, we are the luckier, the more enlightened and entertained.
Happy Birthday to Mr. Bradbury.
Kudos and enormous gratitude to him for his vigilant campaign in keeping California libraries open. The New York Times front-page story highlighted Bradbury raising his voice and our consciousness on the importance of public libraries in our daily lives.
Really Hot Books
Fahrenheit 451 had to do with the calculated ruination of libraries
Mr. Bradbury has a lot to do with saving our California libraries, “Books are extraordinary creations of the intellect and imagination of amazing individuals combined and as much as I love the internet I’m a big promoter for reading and avidly collecting a diverse library of information and stories in traditional solid, typed print.”
Chances are you read one of his books as a teenager. Or, perhaps you will this week. His best- seller, Zen in the Art of Writing is very often mandatory reading in creative writing courses. His fans are legion.
Love and Ray Bradbury
Of love and life he says,
“If we listened to our intellect, we’d never have a love affair. We’d never have a friendship. We’d never go into business, because we’d be cynical. Well, that’s nonsense. You’ve got to jump off cliffs all the time and build your wings on the way down.”
Threats to close California libraries are egregious.
If you love, and you love libraries, tell Governor Brown to spare the books and save the libraries.
